What will be the effect on histogram if we set higher order bit plane to zero?

If the lower order bit planes are set to zero, in general, the number of bins or components in the histogram of the image will reduced. Hence, number of pixels in each bin or component will increase substantially. This phenomena result in increase in the height of a few peaks existed in histogram.
