Effective current or RMS (Root Mean Squared) is the value of AC (Alternating Current) that would give the same amount of heat (energy) as that of DC (Direct Current) at the same time interval. Let's say 6.36A DC and 7.07A AC would produce the same heat.
AC is usually measurd in terms of RMS since AC is constantly changing both in phase and value it would be better to express it at a value that can be compared to DC.
