Let R and R". be the single resistor
they are joined such that , They are in parallel

Given that -
R = 4 ohm

R" = 6 ohm

Equivalent resistance ,
 \frac{1}{r(e)}  =  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{1}{6}  \\ \\   =   \frac{3 + 2}{12}  \\  =  \frac{5}{12}  \\  =  r(e) =  \frac{12}{5}  \\ r(e) = 2.4 \: ohm
Hence (c) 2.4 ohm is the correct answer
