If there are no other forces acting then the force, no matter its magnitude, has to be applied in the Eastern direction, simple vector addition of forces. Magnitude and direction of force have nothing to do with each other.
If there are other forces present then it would be necessary to provide a force in the direction relevant to counteracting the resultant of the other forces present so as to end with a resultant force to the East.
