Answer:

Molality = moles of solute/ mass of solvent

Moles = mass/molar mass

Mass  = 18.25g

Molar mass of HCl = Number of atoms of element in compound x mass of atom.

             Hydrogen = (1 x 1)

             Chlorine   = (1 x 35)

                 Molar mass of HCl = (1 x 1) + (1 x 35)

                                                 = 1 + 35  = 36g/mol

Therefore, number of moles = 18.25/ 36

                                                = 0.5069 mol

Mass of solvent = 500g = 0.5 kg

Molality = 0.5069/ 0.5

             = 1.0138 mol/kg
