The increase in salary will be 15%.

Increase in salary is 4,600 - 4000 = 600

Increase on the basic salary = 600 / 4000 = 0.15

Percentage increase = 0.15 x 100 = 15%

The percentage of ‘increase in salary’ from Rs.4000 to Rs.4600 is 15%.

Solution:

Given: Increase in salary “from Rs.4000 to Rs.4600”.

There is increase in salary by Rs.600 i.e. Rs.4000 - Rs.4600 = Rs.600/-.

Hence, to find the percentage of increase in salary, we are to divide the increase in salary by the original salary.

The same can be find out as under:

=\frac{\text { Increase in salary }}{\text { Original salary }} \times 100

=\frac{600}{4000} \times 100

\bold{=15 \%.}

Hence, increase in salary was from Rs.4000 to 4600 in amount terms while in percentage terms, there is an increase of 15% in the salary.
