Question :

Calculate the Pressure exerted when a force of 150N is acted on an area of 3m².

Given :

  • Force applied = 150 N
  • Area = 3m²

To Find :

  • Pressure exerted

Solution :

The relation between Pressure , Force and area is given by ,

 \dag   \boxed {\rm{P =  \dfrac{F}{A} }}

We have ,

  • F = 150N
  • A = 3m²

  :   \implies \rm \: P =  \dfrac{150 \: N}{3 \: m {}^{2} }  \\  \\ :   \implies \rm p =  \frac{ \cancel{150}}{ \cancel{3}}  Nm {}^{ - 2}  \\  \\   : \implies \rm \: P = 50 \: Nm {}^{ - 2}  \\  \\   : \implies \rm \: P = 50 \: pa \:  \bigstar

∴ The pressure exerted when a force of 150 N acts on an area of 3m² is 50 Pascals (or) 50 Pa (or) 50 N/m²

Additional Info :

  • Pressure is directly proportional to Force acting and inversely proportional to Area

  • SI unit of Pressure is N/m² (or) Pascal. Because Force has an SI unit of 'N' and Area has an SI unit of 'm²' . Since Pressure = Force/Area = N/m² = 1 Pascals
