Reaction of s-block elements with water-

Alkali metals of the s-block elements react with water very fast with formic hydroxides along with the release of H2 gas.

2X + 2H_{2}O =  =  > 2XOH + H_{2}

• Least reactive metal with water will is Li and maximum is Cs igneous reactivity water increases from Li to Cs.

• Alkaline earth metals will react slowly with water and give hydrogen with metal hydroxide.

X + 2H_{2}O =  > X(OH)_{2} + H_{2}

• Be does not react with water.

• Mg reacts with only hot water.

• Ca and Ba reacts with cold water but with not like that alkali metals.
