Given :

Eight equal resistances of 1Ω are connected as shown in the figure.

To Find :

Equivalent resistance between two ends.

Solution :

❖ In upper branch, 5 equal resistances of 1Ω are connected in parallel to each other in the middle part.

Hence their equivalent resistance will be 1/5 Ω.

Now three resistances of 1Ω, 1/5Ω and 1Ω come in series in the upper branch.

➠ R₁ = 1 + 1/5 + 1

➠ R₁ = 2 + 1/5

➠ R₁ = (10 + 1) / 5

➠ R₁ = 11/5 Ω

Finally two resistances of 11/5Ω and 1Ω come in parallel hence net equivalent resistance of the connection will be;

➙ 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂

➙ 1/R = 5/11 + 1/1

➙ 1/R = (5 + 11) / 11

➙ 1/R = 16/11

R = 11/16 Ω

[Answer given in the question is wrong.]
