The cell wall of cells is a phospho-bilipid layer with embedded proteins. The membranes regulate what moves in and out of a cell. The membrane is selectively permeable because substances do not cross it indiscriminately.
If the cell wall becomes impermeable and does not allow the transfer of substances like oxygen, water, amino acids etc. that are required by the cell and its organelles for regular functioning, then the cells get deprived of all the nutrition required. Thus, it leads to poor growth and development of the cell and its organelles which in turn causes improper functioning of the cells finally leading to cell death.
