Velocity 1 = 30m/s east

Velocity 2 = 40m/s north

Then, ∅ will be equal to 90° cause north and east direction are perpendicular to each other.

Resultant velocity =

 \sqrt{30 {}^{2} + 40 {}^{2}  + 2 \times 30 \times 40 \times cos90 }

 \sqrt{900 + 1600 + 2400cos90}

since cos90° = 0

 \sqrt{900 + 1600}

 \sqrt{2500}

50

Magnitude of resultant velocity = 50m/s

tanß = bsin∅/a+bcos∅

tanß = 40sin90/30+40cos90

tanß = 40/30

{because sin90° = 1 and cos90° = 0}

tanß = 4/3

ß= tan-¹(4/3) in North of east

Cheers!
