Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

W = 1.225 N

● Explanation -

# Given -

m = 500 g = 0.5 kg

h = R

# Solution -

Acceleration due to gravity at height h is given by -

g' = gR²/(R+h)²

Substitute, h = R, g = 9.8 m/s²,

g' = 9.8 × R²/(R+R)²

g' = 9.8 × R²/(4R²)

g' = 2.45 m/s²

Weight of the block at height R is -

W = m × g'

W = 0.5 × 2.45

W = 1.225 N

Therefore, weight of weight of the book placed at height equal to the radius of the earth is 1.225 N.

Hope this helps you...
