Answer:

major is a chosen field of study, the specialization of the student. ... For example: “I'm an American studies major.” One can also use the verb study to talk about one's major. For example: “I'm studying biology” and “I study biology” both show the student's major.

Answer:

My current major is Computer Science and I aim to specialize in Computer and Memory Architecture. My advisor and I are discussing interesting areas where we can work upon.

However, I did my undergrad in Electronics and Communication. I did have the opportunity to go for CS at that time but I found my interest lying in ECE. In India, it's very tough to get a job in core ECE sector and like many Indian students, I joined an IT company after my undergrad. What helped me was I moved to a product based company which is a telecom giant in US. The pay was good and working conditions were relaxed. I enjoyed working with my Lead who was based in NYC and was a Masters herself.

Despite my initial hesitation, I started exploring the wonders of CS. The development was only the least part, I learned the power of analytical thinking and the magic that happens when the logic turned code does the wonder on screen. I developed a matured prespective to learn and implement things as a developer.

I decided to go for Masters yet in Electrical in US. However, I took my time (read a semester) to realize that my interest lies in CS. Getting into Electrical Engineering in my University is tough(it ranks among the top 20 programs in US). I found an advisor, mostly by luck, who was working on interesting ideas but he was from CS.

After some months of careful deliberation, I decided to move to CS. It would be tough for me to emulate the intelligent students here but I am all up for the hardwork with determination.
