What happens after we die? My spirit world sources (see below) have described it.
Before your birth, your spirit existed in the spirit world as an individual with previous lifetimes and an agenda for advancement. As part of their agenda, they chose your particular lifetime for the lessons it was expected to provide. That is the point of all of our lifetimes — to help our spirits to learn in ways that are not possible in the spirit world.
Upon your physical death, your spirit will return to the spirit world, but you will experience it as your return — your human consciousness will be intact. You will be welcomed by the Light, greeted by loved ones, and your spiritual energies will be replenished. You will have a sense of yourself as spirit and will understand much that is not clear to you now.
On the plane of learning, you will review every thought and memory of your lifetime, and, with the guidance of Masters, reflect on what you might have done differently. You will compare the lessons learned with those that were intended and select the lessons for your next lifetime.
Your human identity will have been gradually merging with the identity of your spirit. On the next plane, decision, your spirit’s identity will be stronger as you decide which of your memories (both positive and negative ones) will become a part of the permanent identity of your spirit, including the thoughts associated with them.
At this point, your spirit might choose to take their next lifetime or learn some of the many lessons available in the spirit world, including time spent as a messenger or guardian. The spirit world is a place of opportunity, growth, and purpose within the illumination of the Light, which is an emanation of the Creator.
My sources are two spirits who spoke to me through another person (directly, not channeled). I have written of my experience, and more of what they revealed to me, in The Invisible Choir
During this stage, organs remain alive and there may be enough oxygen in the brain that no permanent damage occurs.
The second stage of dying, biological death, is the process by which the body’s organs shut down and cells begin to degenerate.
