what will happen and why if salt is applied to raw mango pieces

Unnatithapa1184: If salt is applied on mango piecesthe pieces will shrink in size due to the fact that is a hyper tonic solution. It is a hypo tonic solution because salt has a greater volume that mango pieces and thus it will try to reach equilibrium by removing particles from cell. This will make it shrink.

Even if you dont intend to make pickles, just drying the pieces in the sun with salt will ensure they last a few weeks, I use them in dals. Bengalis make aam-dal using raw mango.

as outer solution has more conc. of solute so it will exclude water from raw mangoes and they become sticky
