a) The plant has one apical dominantmeristem on its trunk that helps the plant to grow vertically. If this dominant meristem is cut off ordamaged, one or more lateralmeristems will assume dominance, these meristems will start growing faster and the new growth will be lateral.

(a). If apical meristem is cut the plant will again grow further.
(b). If aeranchyma tissue was not present in the aquatic plants they could not float in water.
