If bar magnet is broken into two pieces, then each part will behave as a complete magnet with two poles [N and S]. If each piece is for the broken into two pieces, then each please will behave as a complete magnet with two poles.

If a bar magnet is broken into two equal pieces then each will behave as an individual with newly formed poles. I.e.,when you brake a magnet actually u are not destroying the properties of a magnet ,so the other end of magnet broken halfway is opposite pole of the one on the opposite side.Hence u will have two magnets of same pole strengths as the initial one.

But .....

The pole strength of each piece when a bar magnet is cut into two equal halves perpendicular to its length is the same as the pole strength of the original bar magnet. However, the magnetic moment of each piece is half the magneticmoment of the original bar magnet.
