Explanation:

MUMBAI: On March 12, 1940 the Times of India reported a recent visit by Neville Chamberlain to India House, the office of the Indian High Commissioner in the UK. Chamberlain was still a few months away from handing his office to Winston Churchill, but the war with Nazi Germany had started so it is hardly surprising that ToI reported he was ‘interested’ to find the entrance hall decorated with a large mosaic of a swastika, the symbol of the Nazis. ToI reported that the incident lead to a debate in the British papers which discovered that it was “India’s ancient symbol of peace and prosperity. Hindu mothers often make the swastika sign in rice at a new born child’s cradle.” India House had been commissioned several years earlier when it was decided India needed a representative in the UK, like Canada and Australia. It was designed by the architect Sir Herbert Baker, who designed India’s Parliament and North and South Blocks. Baker probably incorporated traditional Indian designs like the swastika.
