If aerial roots of mangroves completely perished, then
There will no transportation of gases from the atmosphere to the roots from underground, as a result, the mangroves do not survive due to insufficient supply of essential gases by the aerial roots.
What are the functions of aerial roots?
- As we know every living organisms require oxygen for its survival and the oxygen supply of mangroves is from the aerial roots.
- During the time of high tides, when the roots are submerged, mangroves reserve the supply of these essential gases into the interior of the roots.
- Some other examples of aerial roots other than mangroves are Spanish moss, Banyan Tree, and Orchid plant.
