If no gases could be dissolved in water, then life on earth would be very different. No vertebrate life would be able to survive in the oceans.

Answer:
The bond between carbon and oxygen is not as polar as the bond between hydrogen and oxygen, but it is polar enough that carbon dioxide can dissolve in water. ... Point out that when dissolved, the molecules of CO2 are not like tiny little bubbles of gas mixed in the water.
