Tooth decay (dental caries) is damage to a tooth that can happen when decay-causing bacteria in your mouth make acids that attack the tooth's surface, or enamel. This can lead to a small hole in a tooth, called a cavity. If tooth decay is not treated, it can cause pain, infection, and even tooth loss.

Answer:

If the bacteria present in our mouth not removed they will eat the food particles present in our mouth and produce acid which will reduce the pH value of our teeth and can cause tooth decay. which is very painful and damage our teeth.

To reduce tooth decay we use tooth paste which contain mild base it react with acid and form neutralization compound.
