Answer. If cells do not have the ability of permeability then the cells won't be able to absorb water or anything through the membranes and the cell wall will dry up and die. There are many things that depend on it such as osmosis and concentration level of sodium with other material.

Permeability in a cell is determined by the concentration of certain group of ions inside and outside the cell . And because of this permeability , cells take up the food and water they need for survival and functioning . If a cell looses its permeability , its going to die because it wont be able to get nutrients to generate energy for itself . It may end up consuming everything available inside the cell membrane .
