what will happen if coal and petroleum get exhausted?

If coal and petroleum get exhausted, it will add more worries to the coming up generation as they will have to walk or cycle a long way because they can't use aeroplanes and railways for a long journey. we will have to use waterways as much as possible or we can invite cars that can run on electricity or solar power or we can just minimise the use of coal and petroleum.
