Reason why cocoon is boiled:
To produce long and lustrous silk threads, the cocoon of a silk worm is boiled before silk strands are taken out of it, as boiling reduces the stickiness of the cocoon threads it is difficult to pull the strands apart from each other.
Without boiling cocoon, the strands would be brittle which breaks them into smaller pieces and would make it difficult to spin threads out of the cocoon.
