if meiosis will not occur during gametogenesis then the number of chromosomes get double in the Zygote..
the fusion of two diploid gametes... result in the formation of tetraploid zygote.

If we take the example of humans so here we have 46 chromosomes that is in pairs so therefore we have 23 pair of chromosomes. Hence we are diploid organisms. If meiosis will not take place during gametogenesis then the daughter cell will get 46 chromosome from dad and 46 chromosome from mom hence the baby we will not survive as humans can only have 46 chromosomes which means that we are diploid organisms.
