If mucus is not secreted by gastric gland then the HCl secreted in the stomach will rupture the wall and causes gastric ulcers(In severe cases it may even lead to internal bleeding).

Our stomach secretes substance like HCl,pepsin and mucus for digestion. The function of mucus is to protect inner lining of stomach from the action of HCl. If mucus is not secreted, then the stomach will be damaged.
