Similarly, if the source of the mist/rain is rapidly scudding across the sky the rainbow will not remain visible for as long as if the source is more nearly fixed (as in the reference to mist from a waterfall, above).
And, of course, it depends on how intense the bow is. If the amount of mist and sunlight are great enough to produce a secondary bow outside the primary bow, then the primary bow will remain visible longer than if the conditions barely allow a faint primary bow.
And of course, if it is a bright bow and conditions allow it to last long enough to fetch a satisfactory camera (one with a wide enough field of view to capture the whole width of the bow), then a record of the rainbow can last for as long as we have the technology to view its image.
