If a representative is selected forever then it will create a problem for people.

Also, the democracy will end at that moment single only one person will be allowed to make changes.

The freedom to vote and speech will mean nothing at that time.

The representative is changed to ensure that they listen to people as they will be changed if they don’t.

The fact that representatives have to stand for elections regularly gives the voter some control over them. If they were elected for life, they would do whatever they wanted and we’ d have no way to remove them, they’d be in fact dictators.
