Explanation:

The trachea is the passage of air to the lungs where the breathing is impossible without it. The trachea has to be in position for the correct passage of air.  

The rings of cartilage act as reinforce for trachea, the absence of rings will lead to collapse of trachea which in turn leads to absence of breathing. This plays an important role in respiration process.
