the rings of cartilage helps preventing trachea from colapsing when there is no or less air. so, if the rings of cartilage are not there , trachea will colapse.

The C shaped cartilaginous rings are present in trachea which prevents tracheal walls from collapsing.If these are not present the walls may collapse at any time.
