But if the roots don't get minerals from the soil, They would eventually die. This happens because there would be no absorption of Ions which helps in transport of water. Also Minerals are needed for the growth of the plant. Minerals such as Nitrogen is essential, Nitrogen helps plants grow. All living cells contain nitrogen. Nitrogen is also part of chlorophyll, the pigment that traps sunlight.
