Few examples ..
The Hong kong story as it is unfolding. The people here are now used to live in free society with more than 120 years of democracy and so called British rule.
The British rule was as bad but allowed a free society for whatever reasons and it has become impossible for a huge / mighty country to impose dictatorship in that small island.
The same thing happened during the Aan Men revolution or agitation. These people had caused the government to open up their way to the world.

If the country is not democratic then there is not rules and regulation . It might be that dictatorship and mobarchy will established . It's quite that In the rule of dictatorship economic growth of countried slightly higher than democratic . But because of only one reason we cannot reject democracy
