The plant will not grow... it lacks water... Plant need water to grow as well as do the photosynthesis....

xylem in plants is associated with transportation of water and minerals from root to the other paets of the plant(unidirectional flow).
If it is removed plant donot getwater and minerals and it ultimately dies.
