it depends upon strength of the salt solution:-

if salt solution contains high amount of salt than the cells of onion peel then there will be shrinkage in onion peel cells

if salt solution have equal amount of salt then there will be no shrinkage or swelling

while if salt contain high amount of water then there will be a little or more swelling depend water concentration outside and inside onion peel solution

please tell me in comment if i lack something in my answer

If we place onion peel in a watch glass that contains salt solution, exosmosis will occur.

  • If the surrounding medium contains a higher concentration of salt i.e. hypertonic solution, then water will move out of the cells causing the cells to shrink.
  • It occurs due to the process of exosmosis.
  • Water always moves from a region of its higher concentration to a region of its lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
