What will happen if we put a plant cell or animal cell in water

If you place an animal or a plant cell in a hypertonic solution, the cell shrinks, because it loses water ( water moves from a higher concentration inside the cell to a lower concentration outside ). So if you get thirsty at the beach drinking seawater makes you even more dehydrated

if it's pure water then it will be equilibrium as it will be in an isotonic solution.

if it's in hypertonic solution that means the concentration is higher in the cell then the cell will shrink.

if it's in hypotonic solution that means concentration of water is high then the water will rush into the cell and the cell will be swollen.
