Answer:

A diamond can take a ton of heat, I have had them red hot, for a minute at least, with no damage. But when you are using a torch, the point of no return is quick, and you have no warning until it is to late. (Due to the temperature estimates.)

The diamond will cloud up, this is how you know you have internally destroyed it.

They can crack, if a flaw is already present. I rapidly cooled one in water and straight cracked it, along its previous tiny crack.

But I have never had one disappear on me.

Now, a diamond is the same thing as coal, it just sat in the ground longer. So my guess would be that eventually you could burn one up. But it’s gonna take a lot of heat.

It’s got to be intense, way more then 800 Celsius (or whatever). It is also going to have to be constant and probably in a controlled environment if you are trying to produce ash.

Remember a diamond is formed under immense heat and pressure for thousands of years. If your gonna take her on, better bring your “A” Game
