Marine fishes are adapted to live in high salt concentration and there are used to hypertonic condition whereas in fresh water the levels of salt are low.
If we put salt water fish in fresh water, due to the concentration gradient the water will move from hypotonic solution (surroundings) to hypertonic environment (fish body) and the cells will burst and fish will die.
