Pholem helps the plant by carrying sugar ,amino acids and both nutrients from roots to the leaves ,stem and other parts of the plant. If the phloem is romoved then the transportation of substances won't take place and the plant would not get the needed requirements to carry out its process and at last the plant dies.

Hope it helps!!!
