Marine fish are constantly keeping their inside's salinity below that of the water, so they have a system that removes salt from water so key keep the water and discard the salt.
In freshwater, they need to do the opposite: keep their insides' salinity above that of water. So they need a system capable of doing exactly the opposite of what they usually do constantly, or at least "turn it off" and stop "drinking" water. And most marine fish are just unable to do that, because they never will need to.
