When dry raisins are placed in water, they swell up. It happens because the water from the surrounding diffuses into the raisins resulting into swelling of them. This process is called osmosis. If these raisins are placed in a concentrated salt solution, they will shrink due to osmosis.

Hope this helps you

Answer:

when dry raisins are placed in water they swelled it happens only because of water Mechanism. Osmosis is the movement of a solvent across a semipermeable membrane toward a higher concentration of solute (lower concentration of solvent). ... When a cell is submerged in water, the water molecules pass through the cell membrane from an area of low solute concentration to high solute concentration.
