The water level stays the same because a floating object displaces the amount of water equal to its own weight.

The water level remains the same when the ice cube melts.
This is because, if the ice ( in solid form ) is added to a vessel containing water, it will displace some water and increase the water level. When it melts, it will not further increase the water level, it will just occupy the space taken by solid ice.
