What will happen to the plant cell if it is kept in a hypertonic solution.


pRamya: It will shrink because hypertonic solution means there are more water inside the cell rather outside of it so due to osmosis the water flows out comes out in order to balance the in-outside environment of the cell Thus the cell shrink. Hope you understood!

In hypertonic solution,the concentration of water molecules in outside medium is lower than inside cell.As a result ,the cell shrinks..

Plasmolysis is a process in which protoplasm loses water, shrinks and cell membrane detaches from the cell wall when a cell is kept in a hypertonic solution. In boiled plant tissue, the cell wall disintegrates. Hence, plasmolysis does nor occur in such tissue.
