let initial length of edge of cube be a

so TSA of cube is =Area1

6 {a}^{2}  \: unit \: square

but, now edge is halved so

A=a/2

so TSA of new cube =Area2

 = 6 { \frac{a}{2} }^{2}  \\  \\  = 6 { \frac{a}{4} }^{2}  \\  \\ =  \frac{3 {a}^{2} }{2}  unit \: square

now ratio,

 =  \frac{area1}{area2}  \\  \\  =  \frac{6 {a}^{2} }{ \frac{3 {a}^{2} }{2} }  \\  \\  =  \frac{4}{1}

So new area becomes 4 times smaller than previous one
