If non-volatile solute is added to a solvent, its vapour pressure DECREASES.
It is a colligative property called ‘Lowering in Vapour Pressure’.
The reason for the lowering in vapour pressure is that the surface area of the exposure of solvent decreases, thereby decreasing the vapour pressure.
