the letters seems to be raised due to refraction.when light travels from rarer to denser medium,the light rays bend towards the normal.this happens because different media have different densities,thus speed of light is different in each of em.
when v luk at d letters,the light bend slightly nd reach us due to refraction..
if we extend d light rays backward we see dat d light rays meet at a slightly raised position
