Quick lime is Calcium oxide
Its chemical formula is CaO
When water is added to quick lime ie Calcium Oxide immediate reaction takes place between them forming Calcium Hydroxide
CaO + H2O =Ca(OH) 2
This is an exothermic reaction

When Calcium oxide i.e. quick lime is added to water filled in a bucket, it reacts vigorously with water to produce slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) releasing a large amount of heat.
