1st it turns moist blue litmus paper into red and soon it bleaches it as it is acidic in nature.
litmus paper is a physical test
there are some chemical tests to identify the gas
1.it decolourizes pink acidified potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution
2.it changes orange/yellow solution of acidified potassium dichromate green
3.turns lime water milky (similar to CO2)
4.it has no effect on lead acetate paper
sulphur dioxide is a colourless gas and has burning sulphur smell.
hope it helps u
