Mixing bleach, or sodium hypochlorite with muriatic acid will liberate chlorine gas, which is definitely toxic, and a severe irritant to eyes and nasal passages and the lungs even in small amounts. ... Mixing Muriatic (hydrochloric) acid and Chlorine is *definitely not* 'Mustard Gas'.
