When two forces act in same direction then they are added and they a counted as one .
Eg. Suppose on a box two forces (both of 10 N i.e. total 20N force on right ) are pulling it from right side and one force of 10 N is pulling it from left side then the total force working on the box will be (20N - 10N = 10N on right side) . In the above situation both the forces on right were added up.
