Answer:

Explanation:

When lacking information expecting miracles is just as reasonable as expecting doom. The rational expectation, in that case, is boredom. For open borders that would mean no dramatic changes, unlike the popular doomsday predictions.

The information we do have gives reasons for optimism. For example, over the past decades Luxemburg repeatedly opened borders to countries that were bigger and poorer on average, but rather than being destroyed by a tsunami of immigrants, it became one of the wealthiest countries in the world and a center of power within the European Union. In the United Arab Emirates, there are over eight guest workers for every native Emirati. The guest workers are grateful to escape poverty and war in their home countries, while the Emirati live a life of luxury. If you look around for the aftermath of open borders you will find many of these success stories.

If stories don’t convince you, then consider that the consensus among scientists is that more migration would be good. Few openly support open borders, but if they have counter-arguments, they don’t come further than noting that there are problems to be solved and limits to our abilities to solve them.

I’ll move onto predictions. Currently, migration restrictions hold a lot of people back. Opening all borders would, therefore, result in a wave of migration from poorer countries to wealthier ones. Real estate prices would probably go up and many new construction jobs would be created by new demand for work and living places. Services would become cheaper as more people are available to deliver them. Overall it would be a few decades of massive global economic growth, while some poorer areas would be deserted.

In the long run, migration would fall to natural levels and the economies would adjust to their new populations. Things would return to ‘normal’, including petty disagreements that the media would report as culture wars. One important difference is that most people would start looking down at immigration restrictions, much like most now look down on segregation and slavery.
